Tokyo shares closed mixed by break Thursday morning on halt of the momentum of rallies over the past week following Republican Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 1.88 points, or 0.01 percent, from Wednesday to 17,864.09.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.18 point, or 0.01 percent, to 1,421.47.
Gainers were led by air transportation and mining issues while decliners were led by banking and insurance issues.
