Tokyo Stocks Extend Gains in Morning as Weak Yen Supports Exporters-March 10

Tokyo stocks extended gains Friday morning as the yen's weakness against the U.S. dollar saw investors pile into exporter-linked issues, which lifted the broader market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 256.76 points, or 1.33 percent, from Thursday to 19,575.34.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 17.00 points, or 1.09 percent, to 1,571.68.

Notable gainers by the morning break comprised rubber product and insurance-linked issues.
