Tokyo Stocks Close Higher on Weak Yen-March 9
 

Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday as the market mood was lifted by a comparatively weak yen against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average advanced 64.55 points, or 0.34 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 19,318.58.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 4.43 points, or 0.29 percent, higher at 1,554.68.

Advancing issues outpaced declining ones by 1,216 to 625.

Trading volume on the main section came to 1,595.02 million shares, down from Wednesday's volume of 1,626.03 million shares.

The day's turnover totaled 1,879 billion yen (16.4 billion U.S. dollars).
