Tokyo shares opened lower Thursday on the fall of U.S. stocks overnight as well as lower oil prices.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 94.35 points, or 0.49 percent, from Wednesday to 19,350.14.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 7.58 points, or 0.49 percent, to 1,537.36.
Decliners were led by marine transportation, precision instrument and bank issues.
