S. African Stocks Slightly Lower Thursday-March 9
 

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed weaker on Thursday.

The all share index was off 0.76 percent to 50,910.71 points at close, as the resource 20 index dropped 2.07 percent, extending losses to about 15 percent since the index's peak in January.

Platinum dropped 0.22 percent to 940.72 U.S. dollars an ounce as gold spot price lost 0.16 percent to sell at 1 205.05 dollars an ounce.

The South Africa rand traded at 13.3 per dollar, 16.3 to the pound and 14.08 to the euro at 5:00 p.m. (CAT).

Among some individual shares, BHP Billiton was off 2.87 percent to R202.37, and Anglo American dropped 3.01 percent to R186.25. Assore dropped 7.03 percent to R238 and Africa Rainbow Minerals lost 6.38 percent to R93.21.

British American Tobacco firmed 0.91 percent to R816.25 and Steinhoff climbed 2.18 percent to R63.85. Sanlam rose 1.49 percent to R69.47.
