Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1 percent at 3,250.03 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.2 percent lower at 11,012.19 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.05 percent to close at 2,183.05 points.
